Maple Leaf Foods

Maple Leaf Foods became a UNICEF supporter during the food crisis in the  Horn of Africa in 2011, with a significant outpouring of employee donations and a corporate match to raise a total of $100,000 in support of this nutrition emergency.  Since then, Maple Leaf Foods has become an annual emergency partner for UNICEF Canada, supporting UNICEF’s emergency response for children in the highest need humanitarian crisis areas of the world.   In the fall of 2012, the two organizations furthered their partnership with the support of one of North America’s leading relationship experts – Dr Karyn Gordon – to promote an initiative called “Making Meals Meaningful”, which aims to help Canadian families connect around the dinner table.  The program features themed conversation starter cards that parents can use as a guide to have engaging discussions with their children about important and sometimes hard-to-discuss topics including acceptance, compassion, empathy, generosity and selflessness.
