The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) has been working in partnership with UNICEF Canada for more than 30 years. CIDA’s support has helped ensure the rights of the world’s children are realized through UNICEF’s work. In recent years, the Government of Canada has provided important funding for emergencies, such as the Tsunami and the Pakistan earthquake, as well as funding for regular development programming. For example, through a significant investment by the Canadian government an Accelerated Child Survival and Development Program was piloted in 11 countries in West Africa resulting in an average 20 per cent decrease in child death rates in districts where the programme was fully implemented.
Funding from CIDA has also provided critical support for other UNICEF programmes in such areas as immunization, HIV/AIDS, child protection and education.
