G8 Maternal Newborn Child Health Initiative Briefing for Media
Teleconference technical briefing held by Canada’s Leading International Development Organizations
Toronto/Ottawa, ON – June 21, 2010
WHAT: In 2010, we continue to live in a world where motherhood is, depending on where one lives, a leading cause of death and where more than 8 million children under the age of five continue to die every year from preventable causes. Maternal, newborn and child health is a vital issue on the 2010 G8 Summit agenda.
Representatives of a coalition of Canada’s largest international development organizations are hosting a G8 maternal newborn child health initiative briefing for media in advance of the 2010 G8 Summit to offer more details and expert background on what this initiative could mean to those most vulnerable on the ground and where Canada in particular, can add value.
WHO: Development experts from Care Canada, Plan Canada, Save the Children Canada, World Vision Canada and UNICEF Canada who have worked for nearly two years along with RESULTS Canada to suggest priorities towards a G8 initiative on maternal newborn child health specific interventions.
WHEN/WHERE: 10:30 a.m. EST, Tuesday, June 22, 2010 via teleconference call
