Massive floods strike northwestern Pakistan

2010-07-31

The recent floods in northern Pakistan have affected up to 1 million people. UNICEF is currently on the ground mobilizing relief efforts to aid in providing clean water and sanitation, vaccinations and nutrition to those displaced by this situation.

Destroyed infrastructure and blocked or washed out roads are making assessment of the damage difficult. Beyond the immediate needs of the relief effort, restoring clean water, health centers and schools will be critical to long-term recovery efforts.

Children are the most vulnerable population in any natural disaster, and we will keep you posted on UNICEF's response to this emergency as news comes in.
