UNICEF calls for children to be protected in Gaza and Israel
NEW YORK, 19 November 2012 – UNICEF is deeply concerned about the deteriorating situation in Gaza and Israel and its impact on children.
As of today 88 Palestinians have been reported killed, 57 of whom were civilians, including 18 children and 12 women. An additional 742 Palestinians, mostly civilians, have been reported injured, including 252 children and 139 women
Three Israelis have been killed and more than 50 Israelis have been reported injured. In Southern Israel, schools within 40 kilometers of the Gaza Strip remained closed due to indiscriminate rocket fire.
Both rocket attacks and airstrikes are putting children and their families at risk, leaving them exposed to physical harm and mental distress.
UNICEF calls on all parties to do everything to exercise the utmost restraint and to protect the rights and well-being of all children.
