Update Philippines Typhoons – October 3
Typhoon Parma made landfall Saturday afternoon in the Philippines, packing sustained winds of up to 195 km/h. Most of the country, including Manila, has been spared the brunt of the storm, but UNICEF continues to assess affected regions. We had already prepositioned people and supplies in North Luzon to prepare for the coming typhoon. Family kits containing cooking pots, blankets, water buckets, sleeping mats and soap; were ready to be distributed to those affected.
UNICEF continues to assist children and families displaced by Typhoon Ketsana which struck the Philippines on September 26. The storm has now affected 629,000 families or over 3 million individuals.
