Position Description
Reporting to the Vice President, Development, the Director, Corporate & Community Partnerships is a strategic, relationship‑driven leader responsible for driving the growth and impact of UNICEF Canada’s high value Corporate and Community partnerships. This role oversees a high‑potential portfolio of donors and prospects, directly contributing to an annual fundraising goal of $5 million from Corporate and Association partners.
The Director will champion bold strategies to secure new partnerships at the $100,000+ level, strengthen and expand existing relationships, and shape organizational initiatives that maximize philanthropic giving. They will play a pivotal role in designing and executing engagement plans that elevate UNICEF Canada’s presence and value within the business and community sectors. This includes the development and implementation of a multi‑year Corporate Partnership Strategy (including the launch of a new mid‑level engagement offering tailored to the business community), as well as the creation and execution of a Community Partnership Strategy, cultivating meaningful collaborations with faith‑based organizations, member‑driven groups, and diverse Diaspora communities.
Key Accountabilities
Drive Strategy & New Revenue (50%)
- Accelerate revenue growth by positioning UNICEF as a charity of choice and secure strategic, multi‑year corporate and community partnerships.
- Engage and support senior leadership and high‑level volunteers to activate prospects and advance major partnership opportunities.
- Partner with the Brand and Marketing team to develop B2C initiatives that drive both fundraising results and brand visibility.
- Design and launch a turnkey mid‑level business engagement product (including Employee Giving strategies) that offer meaningful recognition and impact.
- Leverage UNICEF’s Alliance for Children in Emergencies and other global platforms to maximize funding for humanitarian action and core UNICEF programs.
- Collaborate with UNICEF Global teams to strengthen Corporate and Community partnerships in the Canadian market and ensure international partnerships are fully optimized.
- Work cross‑functionally with fundraising channels across UNICEF Canada to execute integrated revenue‑generation and partnership strategies.
- Support the VP, Development in the global Joint Strategic Plan (JSP) and Annual Operating Plan (AOP) processes, ensuring alignment across the organization.
- Oversee revenue budgets and operational expenses, ensuring all activities align with annual goals and strategic priorities.
Partner Management (40%)
- Manage and grow a national portfolio of high value corporate and community donors and prospects, driving year over year revenue growth.
- Lead the planning and execution of an annual event for faith based and member-based partners during UN Multifaith Week, supported by team members.
- Build strong relationships with external stakeholders to position UNICEF as the preferred charity for Diaspora fundraising initiatives.
- Collaborate with internal teams to develop compelling, customized proposals and presentations that align with partner objectives.
- Ensure best in class cultivation and stewardship practices by working with internal teams to deliver effective engagement tools and approaches.
- Represent UNICEF Canada through public speaking and presentations at meetings, events, and partner engagements.
- Work with internal and global teams to deliver partner recognition, including press releases, digital content, and social media assets.
People & Operational Leadership (10%)
- Foster a high performing, motivated team with clear accountabilities aligned to organizational strategy.
- Lead goalsetting, quarterly check-ins, and annual performance reviews in accordance with organizational processes.
- Coach, mentor, and support team members’ professional development and growth.
- Champion a collaborative and supportive team culture focused on executional excellence and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience in fundraising, marketing, sales, communications, account management, or related fields; a recognized fundraising designation in Canada is preferred (e.g., CFRE)
- Minimum of ten years of relevant experience in sales, marketing communications, fundraising (including events and employee engagement), or the nonprofit sector.
- Proven success in account management, demonstrating strong organization, attention to detail, and consistent follow‑through.
- Experienced fundraiser with a track record of managing multiple accounts and developing on‑brand messaging and marketing materials that strengthen partnerships.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to work independently, drive new initiatives, and enhance existing programs.
- Demonstrated success managing all aspects of corporate partnerships, from cultivation to execution.
- Strong interpersonal skills, high emotional intelligence, and a positive, collaborative approach to engaging stakeholders and community partners.
- Comfortable working in a fast‑paced team environment with the ability to prioritize, multitask, and adapt to flexible business hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
- Strong alignment with UNICEF Canada’s mission, vision, and values.
