Shipments to African countries herald final steps toward broader vaccination against malaria

More than 330,000 doses of WHO-recommended RTS,S malaria vaccine arrived last night in Cameroon – a historic step towards broader vaccination against one of the deadliest diseases for African children.

On 21 November 2023 in Yaoundé, Cameroon, an airport worker loosens the webbing securing a pallet holding boxes of the first WHO-approved malaria vaccine, which have just arrived as part of the first shipment.

Pregnant women, babies and children face extreme health risks from climate catastrophes that warrant urgent attention, according to a Call for Action released today by United Nations (UN) agencies ahead of the global Conference of the Parties (COP28) negotiations on climate change in Dubai.

At least 5 million children at the brink in Darfur as unchecked conflict worsens

In the last seven months of fighting in Sudan, reported cases of children killed and injured in Darfur spiked 450 per cent when compared to all of 2022.

On 17 June 2023, Sudanese refugee Fatna Ibrahim Daoud, 35, a mother of 7, is sheltering in the shade in Adre, the Chadian city bordering Sudan. She fled the fighting with her 7-year-old daughter Isra.
