Deputy Director, Development (Corporate Partnerships) 

(Permanent; Full-time; Flexible Hybrid; based in Toronto) 

Overview 

The Deputy Director will be responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities of UNICEF Canada’s high value corporate partners.  Reporting to the VP, Development, the Deputy Director will oversee a portfolio of donors and prospects to achieve a personal annual fundraising target of $2 million plus while leading the achievement of the overall Corporate Partnerships team’s revenue targets.

The role will formulate strategies to secure new corporate partners at $100,000 + level; grow existing partnerships and contributing to the planning and implementation of organizational activities to maximize corporate giving.

The Deputy Director will also be responsible for the implementation of the multi-year corporate strategy with a focus on building the portfolio for long-term growth.

Responsibilities 

New & Existing Business Development: Revenue and Strategy Generation (60%) 

  • Create fully integrated philanthropic and revenue driving opportunities to position UNICEF as a charity of choice, with a key focus on developing strategic, long-term, major corporate partnerships ($100k+) 
  • Lead the development and oversight of the corporate Employee Giving strategy.  
  • Identify opportunities for growth and expansion within existing relationships. 
  • Secure meaningful meetings/calls with companies across a range of sectors 
  • Develop compelling proposals and presentations for prospective new partners that align with their core business/CSR objectives, leading meetings with a range of corporate contacts. 
  • Proactively approach corporate prospects, maximizing the support we receive from the business community in the event of humanitarian emergencies.  
  • Establish partner opportunities with corporations that assist with fundraising goals, building brand awareness objectives, integrate UNICEF’s Children’s Rights and Business Principles and high-value campaign initiatives to new and existing relationships. 
  • Proactively identify and develop opportunities that will input into the New Business and wider Corporate Strategy. 
  • Identify and develop major national and international new business opportunities. 
  • Research and attend appropriate networking events and conferences to generate New Business leads. 
  • Develop and lead engagement plans to reach senior decision makers at a range of prospects, utilizing senior volunteers where appropriate and foster CEO to CEO relationships.  
  • Lead the development of the prospect pipeline and tracking moves management to meet forecasting activities annually and long-term planning. 
  • Collaborate with other fundraising and operational channels to execute strategies for revenue generation. 
  • Cultivate relationship with US and International UNICEF colleagues to ensure corporate partnerships are fully leveraged in Canada.

Partner Management - Activation and Stewardship (20%) 

  • Lead Canadian relationship manager in the stewardship and cultivation of all global funding partnerships, in coordination with executive level contacts.  
  • Ensure partner activities are furthering fundraising or brand awareness objectives. 
  • Be opportunistic and reactive to new business initiatives or opportunities. 
  • Develop strong cultivation and stewardship tools/ approaches that are considered best practice in the field or market niche as related to engagement strategies.  
  • Collaborate with other fundraising channels to execute strategies for revenue generation and partnership promotion. 
  • Represent UNICEF Canada at meetings and events through public speaking, presentations, and where appropriate public relations activities. 
  • Develop and execute unique, comprehensive marketing communication plans specifically for the cultivation, stewardship and solicitation of partnerships including - significant gift announcements, and events that support cultivation and stewardship strategies.  
  • Develop and execute partner materials including press releases, FAQs for donor services, digital and social media content as required; ensure stakeholder engagement in development and plans to mitigate any potential PR risk. 
  • Ensure UNICEF Canada branding and positioning are appropriately reflected in communication materials and activities by working closely with communications, marketing, and programming teams. 
  • Leverage or seek unique Marketing, Digital and/or Media assets and opportunities for cultivation and stewardship. 

Strategy & Operations Management (20%) 

  • Support the development, implementation and maintenance of a national corporate giving infrastructure which includes – donor reporting, recognition, RE tracking, reporting deliverables and stewardship plans. 
  • Support the VP, Development in the execution of relevant sections of the multi-year UNICEF global joint strategic plan (JSP) and Annual Operating Plan (AOP) for the team and ensure integration across the organization. 
  • Support the development of new revenue generating opportunities for Corporate Partnerships. 
  • Cultivate ongoing relationship with US and International UNICEF colleagues to ensure partnerships are fully leveraged in Canada.  
  • Ensure department strategies are synergistic and identify cross-functional opportunities with Major Gifts, Direct Marketing, Digital and Community Engagement.  
  • Work strategically with UNICEF’s Private Fundraising Partnership (PFP) Division and Regional/Country Offices as required. 
  • Ensure all activities are budget approved and within an annual operating plan or joint strategic plan. 

Qualifications, Competencies & Skills 

  • A University degree, college diploma or equivalent years’ work experience in fundraising, marketing, sales, communications, account management or other relevant disciplines. 
  • A minimum of seven (7) plus years relevant work experience in sales, marketing communications, fundraising events, employee engagement, and/or NFP fundraising  
  • Able to work in a fast paced, team environment while being able to prioritize and multitask.  
  • A successful track record of account management that is organized, detail-oriented with strong follow-through.  
  • Seasoned fundraiser with experience managing multiple accounts with proven results in establishing on- brand key messaging and marketing collateral to support partnership. 
  • Ability to think strategically and work independently in driving new initiatives or enhancing existing programs. 
  • A strategic thinker with experience in successfully managing all aspects of corporate partnerships.  
  • A positive attitude coupled with high emotional intelligence in order to engage stakeholders and the community. 
  • French/English bilingualism (an asset). 
  • Comfortable with flexible business hours to accommodate time differences, evening/ weekend events, donor support or organizational resource management.

Salary Range: $85,000 to $104,000 per year
