Millions of the world’s poorest urban children are more likely to die young and less likely to complete primary school than their rural peers—UNICEF

The poorest urban children in 1 in 4 countries are more likely to die before their fifth birthday than the poorest children in rural areas. And the poorest urban children in 1 in 6 countries are less likely to complete primary school than their counterparts in rural areas, according to a new UNICEF report released today.


UNICEF strengthens support for women and children in Venezuela

United Nations humanitarian convoy to Rukban: UNICEF delivers lifesaving vaccines, medicines and nutritional supplies for 50,000 people

UNICEF, with United Nations partners and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent, concluded a six-day humanitarian aid convoy to Rukban camp in southeast Syria near the Jordanian border. This is the first convoy to the camp from within Syria, where nearly 50,000 people live, the majority of whom are women and children. The last aid delivery to the area was in January from Jordan.

Public education is a strong equalizing force in Canadian society, UNICEF report says

Findings show Canada’s education system is among the most equitable in the rich world. However, income inequality and its side effects may stretch the education gap wider for some children in Canada.


Indonesia: One month on from the Sulawesi earthquake and tsunami disaster, thousands of children still homeless, out-of-school and in need of humanitarian support

Almost a month after a deadly earthquake and tsunami struck Palu and the surrounding areas of the northwestern part of Sulawesi, Indonesia, an estimated 375,000 children remain in need of lifesaving supplies and services.
