UNICEF Canada Ambassador Bayan Yammout grew up in Beirut during the Lebanese civil war, where she experienced displacement, loss, and disrupted education. Now a special education teacher in Toronto, she advocates for children with disabilities locally and abroad. Recently invited by UNICEF Lebanon, she met with partners to explore how to strengthen inclusion and support for children with disabilities, and is sharing her reflections from the trip.

Bayan visited the First Step Together Association (FISTA) in Tripoli, where children and youth with mild to severe disabilities and autism are supported across three centres in northern Lebanon.
