SENIOR Manager, FINANCE

(Permanent; Full time; Flexible; Hybrid; based in Toronto)

Reporting to the Director, Finance, the incumbent manages the daily operations of the finance department including bank reconciliations, accounts payable, fixed assets, general ledger, payroll and statutory reporting.  This role is also responsible for the planning and budget consolidation, financial analysis, and management reporting.

The responsibilities will include:

Accounting, Financial Reporting and Analysis (50%)

  • Manage all aspects of day-to-day accounting operations and controls including bank reconciliation, accounts payable, account reconciliation, fixed assets and general ledger
  • Prepare and review monthly operating statements, balance sheet, variance analysis
  • Approves and post revenue to the general ledger revenue accounts prepared by direct reports, monitor revenue suspense account
  • Maintains the integration between Raisers Edge and Financial Edge
  • Leads the closing of month-end procedures, including approval of journal entries and other recurring items
  • Monitors banking activities, release payments and provide guidance and support to business units as required on financial analysis
  • Monitors donated securities, banking activities, release payments, liaises with bank and other financial institutions re: banking requirements, POS machines, credit cards, merchant providers, payment processors, etc.
  • Prepares and reconciles Fund remittances to UNICEF
  • Manages the annual audit, including preparation of financial statements, working papers and other schedules
  • Reviews monthly operating statement and balance sheet for unusual entries/variances to ensure accuracy of financial reporting
  • Responsible for the preparation of quarterly reports and annual Revenue and Expense Report (RER) to UNICEF
  • Responsible for the preparation of the pension audit as required, drafting the financial statements and statutory filings to Financial Services Regulatory Authority

Planning and Budgeting (15%)

  • Coordinate, distribute and consolidate the operating budget and forecast submissions from departments and integrate into the financial system
  • Present draft consolidated budget and forecast to Director, Finance for high level review
  • Support directors in planning and budgeting with variance and trend analysis
  • Monitoring budgetary trends and preparing monthly variance analysis
  • Provide analysis for the development of the strategic and annual operating plan
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators

Payroll Accounting (15%)

  • Prepares payroll submissions through Ceridian Dayforce. Working with People & Organizational Development, ensure payroll is submitted timely and accurately within statutory guidelines
  • Reconciles payroll account, verify source deduction remittances and other statutory payments to Government
  • Prepares and reviews year-end T4/RL1 and T4A, prepare year-end reports to WSIB, WCB, EHT, etc. and reconcile to statutory deductions submitted
  • Main Liaison of Record of Employment and payroll related inquiries from CRA and Service Canada

Project Accounting and Other (10%)

  • Accounting for project funding received, as required
  • Liaise with International Program team and preparation financial reports and budgets as required by GAC and other government agency
  • Liaises with International Program team regarding remittances to UNICEF
  • Assist with strategic direction of the finance department by identifying projects on an annual basis and leading project implementation
  • Prepare financial outlook for the Joint Strategic Plan (JSP) including budget and ratio analysis of revenue, expenses, contribution rate as required
  • Ensure adequate internal controls on processes with Raiser’s Edge, Financial Edge and process flow efficiency and digital optimization
  • Liaise on Financial Edge system changes/upgrades and new project as required
  • Monitor and report on UNICEF’s performance and develop comparative ratio analysis of other NPO to ensure competitiveness as required
  • Other duties assigned or requested

People Management (10%)

  • Recruit and develop effective, motivated individuals to achieve common team goals.
  • Ensure integrity with the mission and values in all fundraising activities
  • Encourage individuals to develop strengths and support opportunities to foster professional growth
  • Conduct team annual goal setting planning and performance review as established by HR protocols; support employee engagement strategies as required

Qualifications, Competencies, & Skills

  • Post secondary degree or diploma in accounting, finance or related field or equivalent number of years’ work experience
  • CPA or other internationally recognized accounting designation
  • Minimum of seven (7) years’ accounting experience, not for profit experience (an asset)
  • Experience managing people and teams
  • Ability to trouble-shoot, problem solve and provide recommendations
  • Proficient in windows-based applications - MS office; advanced skills in Excel
  • Working knowledge of Raiser’s Edge NXT, Financial Edge NXT (an asset)
  • Working knowledge of Ceridian Dayforce HCM Payroll or similar System (an asset) 
  • Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, able to prioritize and meet tight deadlines

Salary: $70,500 to $85,500 per year
