While there has been a notable decline in new HIV infections among children and adolescents globally over the past decade, adolescent girls still struggle to access tailored prevention services and support, according to the latest available estimates.

New global alliance launched to end AIDS in children by 2030

The new Global Alliance for Ending AIDS in Children by 2030 was announced by leading figures at the International AIDS Conference taking place in Montreal.

A prolonged COVID-19 pandemic is deepening the inequalities that have long driven the HIV epidemic, UNICEF warns Ahead of World AIDS Day.

Lusanda is a warm, vibrant and strong woman. At just 25 years old, she is a single parent to her 5 year old son *Thabo. They live in Phillipi, an informal settlement in Cape Town, South Africa. Lusanda loves being a mother and the responsibility that comes with caring for her child and creating a home. “My son loves animals, so if there is enough money I like to take him to the zoo. We also like playing soccer together and watching TV. I try and help him with his homework. I taught him to write his name.

320,000 children and adolescents newly infected with HIV in 2019, 1 every 100 seconds – UNICEF

UNICEF warns of COVID-19 disruptions to HIV service delivery in one third of high burden countries

Over 300 children and adolescents die every day from AIDS-related causes

Some 320 children and adolescents died every day from AIDS-related causes in 2018, or 13 every hour, according to a global snapshot on children, HIV and AIDS released by UNICEF today.
