Does UNICEF have fundraisers going door-to-door?
Yes. Since 2004, UNICEF Canada has been conducting Face-to-Face/Door-to-Door fundraising and Telefundraising campaigns across the country. These campaigns are part of UNICEF’s fundraising strategy to create awareness and to mobilize and empower Canadians to invest in the positive transformation of every child’s future. Read more »
How do I know if the canvasser really is from UNICEF?
If you encounter any of our Door-to-Door canvassers; they will be wearing our UNICEF branded cyan blue vests, t-shirts or jackets, have UNICEF Canada branded lanyards, and should be carrying UNICEF branded binders. Canvassers will be carrying a touchscreen tablet computer, iPhones, and/or iPads. These canvassers have been hired by us to recruit new supporters and to help Canadians join our most powerful giving program, our Monthly Donor program.
Similarly, our Telefundraising agents will be calling from their call centres in Montreal. Occasionally, we may call you from other centres or directly from our National Office in Toronto.

Our call centres are primarily located in Montreal as well as occasionally out of Toronto. All calls should have a caller number displayed if you decide to call back to speak to one of our agents.
How to Spot a UNICEF Representative
UNICEF Canada currently has partnerships with three fundraising agencies. We work with both Public Outreach and Globalfaces for Face-to-Face canvassing, and Fundraising Direct for Telefundraising. Read more »
UNICEF Canada’s Face-to-Face fundraisers are equipped with the following materials:
- Identification badge with their name and identification number clearly displayed attached by a blue UNICEF branded lanyard. If the fundraiser is in training, their badge will not include a name or ID number, but will be labelled “Fundraiser Trainee” or “Trainee”.
- UNICEF Canada fundraisers will never ask for, or accept cash donations.
- UNICEF Canada fundraisers do not use hand-held debit machines but can process donations on the tablet devices and iPhones.
UNICEF Canada’s Fundraisers with Public Outreach are dressed in cyan UNICEF vests. Public Outreach Fundraisers carry a binder along with an iPhone. They can accept single donations in addition to monthly donations and are able to schedule phone follow-up calls.
Globalfaces Direct Inc.
UNICEF Canada’s Fundraisers with Globalfaces Direct work though their Canadian Professional Services division and are dressed in either a cyan UNICEF nylon jacket or t-shirt (seasonal).
All fundraisers use tablet technology to record and enter donor information. Any data that is transmitted is done so in accordance with the privacy and security protocols in place both provincially and federally.
UNICEF Canada contacts donors through our trusted phone partner, Fundraising Direct. Fundraising Direct shares similar values, vision and passion as UNICEF Canada. They may be in contact with you to communicate updates on our programs, to engage with you on areas that require immediate action, and to discuss how you can contribute through our Monthly Giving program. When speaking with donors over the phone, the fundraisers will be able to provide information only the donor and UNICEF would know, such as the amount and date of your last donation.

Why Use External Fundraisers?
Both our Telefundraising and Face-to-Face Fundraisers provide UNICEF Canada a safe and secure method for engaging Canadians. It is a cost effective way of raising funds to support our programs in over 190 countries and allows us to connect with donors on an individual level. Speaking to donors one on one allows donors to ask questions and learn more about our programs in a broader capacity that we could not offer without our partners. All UNICEF Canada external fundraising agencies, are expected to engage in honest, respectful and effective fundraising to ensure the best possible results for UNICEF Canada clients, and the most enjoyable work experience for their employees. In addition, they are expected to follow strict quality guidelines by UNICEF Canada and are completely non-commission based and offer a competitive entry-level wage.
Are the external fundraisers aware of UNICEF’s work?
Our Face-to-Face campaigns are carried out by professional Face-to-Face agencies. To help make sure our fundraisers are knowledgeable ambassadors for UNICEF Canada, we hold regular meetings, briefings and training workshops to teach them about our history, ideals and programs. We take pride in the knowledge, enthusiasm and quality of our fundraisers. As well as raising money for our ongoing work, our fundraisers share news of our projects with thousands of people in all parts of the country.
What is the cost of using external fundraisers?
Our partners provide the most cost effective ways for us to reach Canadians, where they are. Only with the support of Canadians across the country can we can reach the most vulnerable, hardest-to-reach children with cost effective, life-saving aid.
Is my Information Secure?
All information collected to become a UNICEF Canada Monthly Donor is used directly for tax receipting purposes and to update our donors on how their donations are making an impact.
