Earthquake leaves nearly 70 per cent of schools damaged or destroyed in southwestern Haiti – UNICEF

With UNICEF support, over 300,000 children to resume schooling in earthquake-affected areas

Haitian families being expelled from the United States border to Haiti through several flights during the day.  UNICEF is on the ground at the airport and provides returning children with psychosocial support, protection services and education supplies, in coordination with national authorities and the International Organization for Migration.

The first aircraft carrying UNICEF lifesaving medical supplies arrived today in Kabul through the European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO) Airbridge.

Kabul, 29 September 2021 - The first aircraft carrying UNICEF lifesaving medical supplies arrived today in Kabul through the European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO) Airbridge. 32 metric tonnes containing essential drugs, oral rehydration salts and antibiotics, medical and surgical supplies were flown in today covering the needs of 100,000 children and women for the next three months.

One month after a 7.2 magnitude earthquake jolted southwest Haiti, an estimated 650,000 people, including 260,000 children, still need urgent humanitarian assistance, UNICEF warned today.

On 17 August 2021, patients of Ofatma Hospital in Les Cayes, Haiti and their families wait for medical attention in a UNICEF-supplied tent in the hospital's courtyard. UNICEF installed the tents to shelter patients who feared the hospital building could collapse.
