Famine threatens 1.4 million children, but there is still hope

Almost 1.4 million children are at imminent risk of death from severe acute malnutrition this year. Famine has been declared in parts of South Sudan and looms in Nigeria, Somalia and Yemen. Every day children are dying and UNICEF is working with partners to provide life-saving support for children and families. These are the stories of some of the children caught in this crisis.

Famine is declared in parts of South Sudan

Famine has struck parts of South Sudan and children urgently need our help to survive. War and a collapsing economy have left parents with nothing to feed their families and more than a quarter of a million children are severely malnourished. They need immediate, lifesaving aid and every day counts.

Saved in South Sudan: Nyajime’s remarkable recovery

Four-year-old Nyajime Guet was too weak to sit up on her own. Severely malnourished and near death in a medical clinic in Juba, South Sudan, she lay silently cradled in her father’s arms.

What is Child Stunting?

Whether or not you’re familiar with child ‘stunting,’ the fact remains: around the world, 180 million children under 5 are suffering from this little-known condition.
